This week I decided that I needed a new book to read to occupy my time, considering the fact that I am already reading.... 3 or was it 4 books? I was searching through Barnes and Noble online and saw a book that I sample read a bit back. It is called the Walk by Richard Paul Evans, the man who wrote the Christmas Box and Timepiece, two wonderful movies (yes I admit I haven't read the books but like I said the movies were GREAT!!!) Anyway back to the Walk. it is about a man, Alan Christoffersen, who loses everything. I am on chapter 21 and thus far he explained how he met his wife, McKale, back when they were both kids, how his career boomed after he got into advertising. Then the book turns for the worse. Alan is in a business meeting with the biggest client that has ever considered his company, when he gets a phone call from his neighbor. McKale has been in a terrible accident involving a horse. Alan rushes to the hospital to be with his wife, but when he gets there they find out that, after a series of tests and a 72 hour waiting period, McKale is paralyzed. So Alan leaves all his work to his friend and partner Kyle, while he stays with McKale for about a 3 weeks in rehab. When he is about to take McKale home he realizes that he needs to get back to work, so he calls to tell Kyle that he will be coming in for work, but instead of the receptionist answering it is Alan's Assistant, Falene, who answers. Falene tells Alan how Kyle went off with another coworker and started his own business and took all of Alan's employees and clients. He has to start from the ground and work his way back up again. That is just the beginning of Alan's problems, when he and McKale get home there are overdue bills. Their cars get repossessed, and they have a second mortgage out on their house, which they are two months behind on paying. Things start looking up, so they think, when one morning Alan is getting ready for work and McKale's leg is twitching. Work goes smooth, considering the circumstances, and he goes home to his wife. When he gets home however, McKale is running a fever of 104 so he rushes her to the ER. There they find out that she has an infection that has gotten into her blood stream; the outlook is bad. After McKale gets slowly worse she passes, leaving Alan all alone. He falls apart at and after her funeral, refusing to leave her behind. When he finally returns home he gets a notice that his house is going up for auction in the coming week.
That is as far as I have gotten, and wow it is really sad. But I am anticipating good things from it. Right now Alan is trying to sort out his emotions and feelings, especially towards God, who to him, hates him and has taken away everything he cares about to punish Alan. He is going through the ideas of going on a long walk right now. So I am hoping that this will not just be a physical cross country walk but a walk of spiritual discovery for Alan. I will keep you posted on the book!

ReviewsBooks have become a part of my life. However, that wasn't always the case. Since discovering the wonder of books, I can't seem to find enough time in the day to indulge in my bibliophilic ways. This page is to catalog those things which I have read. I hope you enjoy! Categories
