This week has been one where I feel like I’m go, go, going… but at the same time I’m completely oblivious to everything happening around me. So when I was brainstorming this week’s blog, I couldn’t quite nail down what I wanted to write about. I bounced around a few constructive blog topics, some that will hopefully be coming in the future, and a few introspective ones. But then I realized that what I really needed this week was a break from “work.” And doing anything too serious felt a little like work. So instead… I chose to play a game with y’all. I like books. That may be the understatement of the year, but I really do. So I thought it would be fun to play a little book game. I’ve picked five books that I’ve read and loved. I’m going to describe them in the most random ways possible, and I want you to try to guess what each one is. I tried to stick with classics and really popular books, so hopefully you have a fighting chance. One rule: no cheating! Don’t peek in the comments for the answers until you’ve made your guesses. Best of luck! Book #1
A former farmhand with unexpectedly refined sword skills becomes involved in a kidnapping that spirals into revenge plots, poison, miracle cures, and an eventful wedding. Book #2 A young man’s life falls apart because of other people’s ambition and poor timing. Years later, after being falsely accused of espionage, he reappears with unlimited resources, a new identity, and the patience to slowly rearrange the lives of several people who probably should have left him alone. Book #3 A teenager with strong survival instincts becomes the unwilling centerpiece of a very elaborate national event where image management is almost as important as staying alive. Things become especially complicated when alliances, public expectations, and a very committed television audience get involved. Book #4 Two very perceptive people repeatedly misjudge each other while navigating family expectations, inconvenient relatives, and a steady stream of social gatherings where almost everyone is quietly observing everyone else. Book #5 A creature who values snacks, routine, and comfortable furniture is pressured into leaving home by a group of very persistent strangers. The situation escalates quickly and eventually includes riddles, questionable jewelry, and a creature with strong opinions about personal treasure.
